Jonty Rhodes, the former South African cricketer, is deemed to be one of best fielders the cricketing world has ever produced. He was the one fielder who changed the perception of outfielding and set the benchmarks for the upcoming bunch of cricketers. His acrobatic skills attributed to some of the most spectacular catches and scintillating run-outs.

The leather hardly used to elude the hands of Rhodes as he was safe as houses. Batsmen hardly used to chance his arms and take risks when the ball used to be in Rhodes’ hands. He made his international debut in an ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground back in 1992. Albeit he didn’t get an opportunity to show his prowess with the willow, he inflicted the run out of Craig McDermott.

Superman on the field

He strained with the bat thereafter and got his maiden half-century against India in November 1993. Meanwhile, he made his Test debut in 1992 against India at Kingsmead in Durban. He scored 41 runs from 84 balls in the first innings before being dismissed by Anil Kumble. He remained not out in the second innings with a score of 26 runs.

His international career spanned 11 years in which he played 52 Tests and 245 ODIs, and scored 2532 and 5935 runs respectively. Moreover, he has five centuries and 50 half-centuries to his name. He used to be a busy player and kept rotating the strike in order to disallow the bowlers from settling down. He last represented the Proteas against Kenya at Potchefstroom in the 2003 Cricket World Cup.

He also played six T20s. Back in 2015, he played for the Warne’s Warriors against the Sachin’s Blasters in the United States of America. Moreover, he represented the Virgo Super Kings in the Masters Championship League in 2016. The Natal-born cricketer has turned 49 years and the cricketing fraternity has showered him with wishes.

Here is how the cricketers wished him on the auspicious occasion
