Two sides, marred by defeats in their initial fixtures, locked horns in the 14th match of IPL 2020. It was MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings who battled with David Warner’s Orange Army at Dubai International Stadium.

After electing to bat first, the Sunrisers Hyderabad batting order was dented with multiple blows. The four pillars of SRH’s batting force– Warner, Bairstow, Pandey and Williamson– failed to stitch a prolonged knock in the middle.

However, it was the young pair of Priyam Garg and Abhishek Sharma which bolstered SRH’s run-flow. While Garg smashed a 26-ball 51, Abhishek gathered 31 off 24 deliveries. On the back of their 77-run stand, SRH managed to amass a challenging total of 164 on the board.

In reply, the Chennai side also had a woeful start as they lost their first three wickets in the Powerplay itself. Kedar Jadhav was also dismissed in the ninth over, which left CSK reeling at 42/4. After the top-order batting debacle, skipper Dhoni and Jadeja tried to save CSK’s sinking ship by weaving singles and doubles.

Dhoni, despite battling until the end, failed to steer CSK past the finishing line as they lost the encounter by 7 runs and SRH registered their second victory of the tournament. Twitter lauded Dhoni’s valiant knock and wishes also poured in for the CSK skipper after he became the most-capped IPL player by surpassing Suresh Raina.

The Ranchi stalwart was tied on 193 with Raina before he stepped on to the field for today’s toss. Dhoni now leads the table with 194 matches, followed by Raina at 193. The third name in the list is Rohit Sharma, who has played 192 matches in the tournament.
