The cricketing trends on social media today revolved around the Big Bash League (BBL) final of the eighth edition between the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars. The Stars had won the derby on both the occasions previously this season. But the Renegades showed nerves of steel to make a comeback at the decisive stage and choked the Stars on the day of the final to win the glittering trophy for the first time in the BBL history.

Chasing the total of 146 runs to claim their maiden BBL title, the Stars were 93/0 at one stage in the 13th over. But after Marcus Stoinis’ wicket proved to be the turning point for the Renegades as they were left reeling at 112/7. The victory was inevitable for the Men in Red then as they won the game by 13 runs easily in the end. Congratulatory messages flooded in for the team on social media since then.

Like everyone, India’s head coach Ravi Shastri was also in awe of Kusal Perera for the way he batted during the whole Test match. He also lauded the number 11 Vishwa Fernando’s efforts who, with his unusual defence helped his partner script history.
