The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. Most of the talks were regarding India’s victory against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy. In the first Test at the Adelaide Oval, India were bowled out for 36 in the second innings and a number of experts ruled out India’s chances of a comeback. However, the visiting team made a comeback and under the leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, they flourished.
In the final day’s play, India needed 304 runs in the final Test at The Gabba in Brisbane. Rohit Sharma perished early to Pat Cummins and India found themselves on the backfoot from the outset. However, Shubman Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara put their heads down and brought their team out of jail. Gill was unlucky to miss out on his maiden Test century, falling prey to Nathan Lyon at a score of 91.
From there on, Rishabh Pant took charge. He was a tad circumspect to start his knock but picked up in pace as India got closer to the target. He stayed not out on 89 and made sure that India got over the line. He got an able partner in the form of Washington Sundar, who hadn’t played a first-class match since November 2017. After the triumph, the cricketing fraternity showered praises on them.
