The 12th match of the IPL 2020 at Dubai International Stadium turned out to be a special one for Kolkata Knight Riders. The Dinesh Karthik-led side finally clinched their second victory of the tournament by defeating Rajasthan Royals by 37 runs.

Eyeing to clinch their third victory this season, a dominant Royals side won the toss and put KKR to bat first at Dubai. RR bowling set-up, led by the blistering pace of Jofra Archer, made a heavy impact by scalping five KKR wickets at a modest total of 115.

However, Eoin Morgan’s late cameo of 34 off 23 steered KKR to a challenging 174-run total. Andre Russell also played a crucial knock in the middle, smashing 24 off just 14 deliveries including 3 sixes.

In response, the Royals failed to start off steadily. Impressive early spell by Pat Cummins curbed RR’s run-flow and they even lost the wicket of skipper Smith in the second over. What followed was the RR batting unit suffering a debacle. Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, Robin Uthappa, Riyan Parag and Rahul Tewatia– all stalwarts were sent back to the pavilion as RR was left reeling on 66/6.

The young pair of Shivam Mavi and Kamlesh Nagarkoti also hogged the limelight by scalping two wickets each. In the end, RR managed to amass only 137 runs on the board, handing a 37 run victory to Dinesh Karthik’s men. Following KKR’s emphatic win, Twitter was flooded with congratulatory messages for the men in purple and gold. While some heaped praise on the Mavi-Nagarkoti pair, some lauded the batting knocks of Gill and Morgan. With KKR’s victory, all IPL 2020 sides now have at least one victory under their belt.
