The cricketing trends on social media revolved most around the Ashes between England and Australia that got underway on Thursday. The first Test is being played at the Edgbaston in Birmingham. The visitors elected to bat first after winning the toss and the decision backfired on them as Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes picked up wickets at pretty regular intervals. The quick fall of wickets never allowed the Aussie batters to settle into a rhythm. Only Steve Smith showed a fight and scored a half-century in the post-lunch session of Day 1.

David Warner and Cameron Bancroft, who played their maiden Test after the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town, couldn’t make an impact and fell prey to Broad. During the day’s play, the umpires missed out on quite a few correct decisions and weren’t on their mark by any stretch of the imagination. Former Indian cricketer Bishen Singh Bedi felt that the umpires had a rough day in the office. Michael Vaughan was confused about what between the Aussie batting and umpiring standard was poorer.

Aakash Chopra conducted a poll on Twitter asking people whether the Ashes is an over-rated clash or not. Danielle Wyatt, the England women’s cricketer, wished the Three Lions prior to the Test. On Wednesday, Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 122 runs at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Subsequently, they also won the series 3-0.

Angelo Mathews was the Player of the Series and he heaped praises on his teammates for the decent show. Indian batsman Ajinkya Rahane believes that peace of mind is an important element for relaxation. Aakash Chopra reviewed Bangladesh’s performance in the World Cup.
