The cricketing trends on social media revolved around a number of events. England and Sri Lanka locked horns in the 27th match of the World Cup at the Headingley in Leeds. After winning the toss and electing to bat first, the Lankans could only manage 232 in their 50 overs. Angelo Mathews came back to form with a superlative knock of 85 from 115 deliveries and his knock was laced with five fours and a six.
For the Brits, fast bowler Jofra Archer turned out to be a thorn in the Lanka’s flesh. The right-arm speedster picked up the wicket of opposition skipper Dimuth Karunaratne in the beginning and then Dhananjaya de Silva and Thisara Perera at the death. The Barbados-born bowler also bowled a couple of maidens. The likes of RP Singh and Danny Morrison were extremely pleased with the way Archer bowled.
Avishka Fernando, who returned after an injury layoff, scored a quickfire 49 off 39 before being dismissed by Mark Wood. Aakash Chopra was delighted with the knock and he said that there’s no dearth of talent in Sri Lankan cricket. Russel Arnold reckoned that the rub of the green was with the English team. Tomorrow, India is scheduled to play their fifth match against Afghanistan at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
Prior to the game, Jasprit Bumrah got some priceless advice from R Sridhar, India’s fielding coach. KL Rahul also looked in a rather relaxed mood ahead of the encounter. Rohit Sharma posted an adorable picture with wife Ritika Sajdeh and daughter Samaira. Chris Gayle and Unmukt Chand shared a couple of pictures on International Yoga Day. Vinod Kambli was busy listening to some much on World Music Day.
