Pakistan are playing Zimbabwe in a five-match ODI series and the visitors who are playing a full-strength squad have shown how dominant they can be. The Zimbabweans have tried hard but skills wise are no match to this rampant Pakistani side. Having already won the ODI series, 3-0, Sarfraz Ahmed decided to bat first in the fourth match. Fakhar Zaman and Imam-ul-Haq opening the innings relished this opportunity and punished the undisciplined bowling.

Fakhar, in particular, was the aggressor and played a host of shots all flowing beautifully out of his bat and more often than not it found the fence. He played the cover drive all afternoon and almost perfected it during the course. None of the Zimbabwe bowlers could test or trouble the openers and in no time, they were racing to their individual hundreds. Zaman got there in 92 balls having scored fifty from 51 deliveries, he carried on and played even better shots.

Once Imam also took his helmet off on reaching triple figures for the third time in ODIs it all looked so easy. They now were in sight of the highest opening partnership in ODI cricket. Fakhar got to his 150 in 115 balls and the way he was timing his shots it appeared as if the highest individual score by a Pakistan cricketer which was held by Saeed Anwar who had piled on 194 against India wasn’t safe.

Their partnership crossed the three-hundred run mark and ended on 304 as Imam got out for 113. Fakhar was determined to achieve something bigger on the 148th ball of his innings the left-hander hit another cover drive, and he jumped in joy, took his helmet off as his team-mates gave him a standing ovation from the dressing room.

He became the first Pakistan player to score a double ton in ODIs, and the eight overall to do so. The 28-year-old remained unbeaten on 210 at the end of the innings and now has the highest score for a Pakistani in 50-overs cricket to his name.

Here is how cricketers reacted to his achievement:
