The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is officially set to resume on May 17, following a temporary suspension due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan. One of the biggest questions that many had during the break was whether the abandoned clash between Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) would be replayed or scrapped. The BCCI has confirmed that the match will be replayed in full.

The PBKS vs DC fixture on May 8 in Dharamsala was called off after just 10.1 overs, with Punjab's scorecard reading 122/1. The game was suddenly stopped due to a sudden blackout and safety concerns triggered by air raid alerts in nearby regions. This led to an emergency evacuation of players and spectators, leading to the match being abandoned midway.

IPL 2025 restart update

Following this incident, the BCCI suspended IPL 2025 for a week as a precautionary measure, citing national security concerns and the safety of players. After a ceasefire agreement between the two countries, the BCCI announced the resumption of IPL 2025. The league will restart on May 17 with a clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Bengaluru. The tournament will now be held across six venues - Bengaluru, Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad, with the final scheduled for June 3.

What happens to the abandoned PBKS vs DC match

As for the PBKS vs DC match, it has been rescheduled to May 24 and will now be played in Jaipur, instead of Dharamsala. Importantly, the match will be replayed from the beginning, and will not be resumed from where it was stopped (10.1 overs).

Interestingly, neither team was awarded a point when the match was abandoned, nor were points split later when the revised schedule came out. Typically, a no-result game would result in both teams getting one point each. However, the BCCI’s decision to conduct the match again means that no points were recorded in the table. PBKS pacer Arshdeep Singh also confirmed the replay in his Snapchat video.

“The venue is somewhere else. The match will start from the start. Hopefully, we will be at 120 in 10 (122/1 in 10.1). We had lost 1 wicket; this time we won’t lose even 1 wicket," he said.
