CricTracker Fan Poll: Best international cricketers of April 2017

The month of April did not see a lot of international cricket action take the center stage. Every year, the months of April and May are all about the T20 carnival of the world cricket. The Indian Premier League (IPL) bags most of the limelight during this time of the year. However, there was still some serious cricketing action on display for the international cricket fans. Pakistan toured the West Indies for a full tour comprising of T20Is, ODIs and the Tests. The visitors notched up clinical wins in the shorter formats of the game. Some of the new talents of world cricket were unearthed during the series. In the Tests, some stalwarts of the game validated their claim as the big match players. On the other hand, other players rose to prominence as well with their superb performances. The performances during the entire tour were phenomenal. Needless to say that all five players listed in the CricTracker Fan Poll for the Best international cricketers of April 2017 belonged to these two participating countries. Now, in the recent times, he has emerged as the go to man for West Indies team in the longest format of the game with the bat. Roston Chase featured in two Test matches during this period and came up with a fifty and a century to his name. He hit a masterly 63 and stitched a 118 run stand with Shane Dowrich in the first Test against Pakistan. The partnership bailed out the hosts from trouble of being at 71/5 in the first innings. He faced a similar crisis situation in the second Test as well. This time, he went a shade better and scored a magnificent 131 to help West Indies post a total in excess of 300 on the board. 4. Mohammad Amir (Pakistan) – 13% votes Pakistan’s Mohammad Amir. He did not disappoint with the ball in the month of April either. In the 7 innings that he bowled in, Amir returned with 16 wickets to his credit. He was threatening with the ball in the first Test against the West Indies. Amir returned with figures of 6/44 in the first innings of the match to run through the opposition top order. Amir then backed it up with another wicket in the second innings to complete his 7-wicket haul in the match. Earlier in the month, he performed well in the ODI series as well. He had 5 wickets to his name in the three ODIs that he played in. 3. The young lad proved his mettle with the bat in the longest format of the game in the first Test against West Indies. He did not have a very pleasing outing in the second Test where he ended up with a pair to his name. However, the second Test is not in the frame of contention for his nomination in the player of the month of April. In the 8 innings that he played during the month, Azam returned with 316 runs to his name. He scored a patient 72 in the first Test against West Indies at Kingston. Earlier on the tour, it was his unbeaten 125 against the same opposition that had helped Pakistan beat West Indies convincingly in the second ODI of the three match series. 2. The farewell series was bound to see him under the limelight for a major part of the proceedings. As things turned out to be, Misbah shouldered responsibility with ease, as he has always been doing. He has been unfortunate in one regard though. Despite being in sublime touch, he has failed to score a hundred in the 3 innings that he has batted thus far. He was stranded on 99 when the last man Mohammad Abbas was dismissed in the first innings of the first Test. In the second Test, he missed out on yet another well-deserved ton by the same dreaded margin of 1 run. This time around, he was dismissed on 99 by West Indies skipper Jason Holder. With 2 99s to his name, Misbah Ul Haq received 26 percent of the votes in the player of the month poll for the month of April. 1. He scalped 16 wickets in the 4 innings that he bowled during the period under examination. Shah has been one of the leading bowlers in the world cricket in the longest format of the game of the current times. Yasir was exceptional with the ball in the first Test at the Sabina Park. He returned with a match haul of 8 wickets. In the first innings, he had looked rusty and got 2/91 in his spell. However, he was back to his sublime best when he bowled in the second innings. Shah scalped 6/63 to break the backbone of the Windies batting. He replicated his heroics in his second game as well. Shah returned with a match haul of 9 wickets that included a 7/94 in the second innings of the second Test. Here is the poll:
