2019 was an eventful year in the ODI format. The 2019 World Cup took place. After some riveting games, the mega event came to an end in a controversial fashion. The boundary count rule gave England their maiden title and slapped New Zealand with disappointment. Later the rule was scrapped. Apart from the World Cup, a few other games also turned out to be enthralling.
As the world gets ready to bid goodbye to 2019, CricTracker fans have picked their best ODI XI of the year. Polls were conducted on the official Facebook page and the eventual winners are declared. Rohit Sharma and Jason Roy have been picked as the openers. Rohit became the first batter to notch five tons in a single World Cup edition. Jason Roy didn’t play a whole lot of games, but averaged in the 70s. He was one of the key reasons why the Three Lions lifted the World Cup in July.
Yuzvendra Chahal picked over Kuldeep Yadav
Virat Kohli and Eoin Morgan form the middle-order. Kohli didn’t have the best of outings in the World Cup, but was outstanding otherwise. On the other hand , Morgan was clinical, both as the skipper and as a batsman. At number four, the fans picked up Ben Stokes, who was arguably the Three Lions standout performer in the mega event in England and Wales.
Shakib Al Hasan waged lone battles in the World Cup. Not only did he score runs, but also made breakthroughs with his left-arm spin. Shakib was also one of the contenders to win the Man of the Tournament award. Jos Buttler has been picked as the wicketkeeper. The Englishman was a brute force to reckon with lower down the order. Yuzvendra Chahal is the specialist spin option.
He made the cut over Kuldeep Yadav, who became the first Indian with two hat-tricks for Team India. Mohammed Shami finished with 42 wickets and the fans preferred him over Trent Boult. Mitchell Starc picked up 27 wickets in 10 matches in 2019 and he edged out Sheldon Cottrell. Pat Cummins was among the leading wicket-takers in the year and he was picked to partner Starc and Shami.
