The tournament is scheduled to commence from June 24 and end with the finals to be played on July 23. Dané van Niekerk has been named as the captain of the team. She will be leading the team for the first time in ICC World Cup.
Earlier, she had successfully led the Proteas Women in the Qualifiers in the lead up to the tournament. There are a few new faces in the lineup as well. Nadine de Klerk and Raisibe Ntozakhe have found their names in the 15-woman squad for the mega event. Both women had made their international debuts recently in the Quadrangular series hosted by South Africa.
Hilton Moreeng, the head coach of the team had noted that the team is strong enough to lift the title this year. As per the quotes in sports24.co.za, Moreeng expressed his satisfaction over the selected squad. He credited the new entrants for their hard work in the Quadrangular series. He added that the two ladies have set up ideal examples for the upcoming players in the country.
“I’m very happy and proud to have the two youngsters, Raisibe (Ntozakhe) and Nadine (de Klerk) in the fold. They proved their worth during the Quadrangular series and announced themselves well to international cricket. They are the perfect example of hard work paying off and how doing all the right things can reap just rewards,” Moreeng quoted.
CSA chief executive, Haroon Lorgat has wished the team all the luck for the upcoming mega event. He quoted, “Congratulations to all our players who have been selected to represent our country at the ICC Women’s World Cup.”
