Despite being under a two-year ban from the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team has not lost its fan base. CSK is one of the most successful franchises in IPL history, being the only team to enter into the finals 6 times.

The third edition of the Junior Super Kings inter-school T20 tournament will commence from June 29 in Chennai and that tournament is another yardstick to measure the reach of two-time IPL champion side. “Last year, we couldn’t conduct this tournament but this year there were a lot of calls from schools and parents across the state who wanted to know if the event was on. And we decided to go ahead with the tournament,” K George John, director of CSK was quoted by TOI.

He also feels that kids are an important part of their huge fan base. “Kids form an important fan base for CSK. When kids take a liking to something, parents too tend to get involved. CSK has never gone in search of brand recall. It is the sheer love of the fans and kids which have made CSK such a popular outfit,” John briefed.

A total of 152 teams across the state are expected to be a part of the competition, where winners from 10 districts and winner and runners-up of Chennai play in Tirunelveli from December 26. The tournament consists of 12 league games and 3 knockouts matches.
