With the 12th edition of the World Cup looming in, CricTracker introduces a two-part World Cup Quiz which gives you a chance to test your knowledge. The first edition of the quiz covers various aspects from the World Cup history starting with the famous Ireland win against England. Kevin O’Brien scored a quick-fire hundred to power the Irish side to the highest chase in the CWC history. Kevin recorded the fastest century in the World Cup off 50 deliveries to help Ireland defeat their neighbours in a miraculous manner.

Many star players came close to the record during the high-scoring 2015 World Cup but no one managed to surpass the Irish all-rounder’s record. One of the many ODI records that World Cup played host to was eight batsmen bagging ducks in a game; the most number of ducks in an ODI game thus far. AB de Villiers smashed a 52-ball ton against the Windies in Sydney and Glenn Maxwell bettered it with a 51-ball effort at the same venue but Kevin’s record stayed alive.

Adam Gilchrist has a unique record of featuring in only three World Cup finals and being on the winning side in all those. He had good outings with the bat in those matches by scoring fifty and more and even recording the fastest fifty ever in a CWC final.  The quiz also discusses the missing of Imran Khan from Pakistan’s fixture against the Windies at the 1975 World Cup.

Despite the all-rounder’s absence, the underdogs gave a great tussle to the Caribbean team and in fact were on the verge of creating an upset. After posting a solid total of 266/7, Pakistan reduced the champion side to 99/5 and soon it turned out to be 166/8.  The keeper-batsman Deryck Murray kept his fight going on as he added 37 for the 9th wicket with Vanburn Holder.

The unbeaten 64-run stand for the final wicket with Sir Andy Roberts sealed the game in the final over. The set of players who have hit the most number of sixes in the World Cup, the players with the most number of ducks in a single edition of this tournament and the player who batted most times in the competition without being dismissed for a nought have been included.
