Dale Steyn is in the middle of a turbulent phase of his career, which has been plagued by a significant amount of injuries. He suffered a calf-injury back in January during South Africa’s home Test series against India and was out for a substantial amount of time. He made a comeback in the Proteas’ Test series against Sri Lanka but didn’t have much to do due to the slow nature of pitches.

Prior to the series, he also played first-class cricket for Hampshire and picked up a five-wicket haul against Yorkshire. He also played England’s domestic One Day tournament. After the Test series, he came back to play for the county. The Phalaborwa-born cricketer bowler plied his trade three matches in the T20 Blast and notched five wickets in the four matches he played.

Steyn shares an update

However, he didn’t have a great outing in Hampshire’s last four-day match against Nottinghamshire in Southampton. The home team won by a significant 270 runs, but Steyn didn’t have a memorable outing in the encounter. In Nottingham’s first innings, he walked off the park midway through his 11th over after a discussion with James Vince, Hampshire’s captain.

He finished with figures of 10.4-1-41-0 and didn’t come on to bowl even in the second innings. Recently, he shared an update where he sounded frustrated, most importantly concerned with his groin. Hampshire will next play Essex from August 29 to September 1 and the speedster is likely to sit out.

The 50-over World Cup is scheduled to take place next year and Steyn has expressed his desire to play in the tournament. With frequent injuries marring his illustrious career, he needs to walk a tightrope as he tries to be fit for the mega event in England and Wales.

In the meantime, he took to Twitter and wrote, “Never had so much attention about my groin area… Small tweak, nothing serious 7-10 days Likely to miss 1 game”
