Daniel Christian, the New South Wales-born all-rounder, last played for Australia in the ODI series against India back in 2017. After making his debut way back in 2010 against the West Indies in Sydney, he has only played 19 ODIs and 16 T20Is for his national team. The veteran recently represented the Aaron Finch-led Melbourne Renegades in the 2018-19 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL).

He was one of their fulcrums in the T20 tournament as he picked up 15 wickets at an economy rate of 7.38. Moreover, he played some handly knocks lower down the order and churned out 254 runs in 16 matches at an average of 31.75 and with a top score of 49 not out.

I’m on top of my game

In the meantime, the 35-year-old hasn’t given up on his hopes of making his comeback for Australia and believes that he has the potential to do so because of the way he has been playing of late.

“I think I can, yeah. I think I’m playing as good cricket – if not better cricket – than I have my entire career. The beauty of not playing four-day cricket for the last 12 months is being able to focus on my skills, particularly my batting and slogging at the end. I’ve been practicing slower balls and yorkers and things like that. I feel like I’m on top of my game,” Christian told to cricket.com.au.

The Renegades won the BBL for the maiden time after defeating Melbourne Stars in the final at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne by 13 runs. The Red Army picked up seven Stars’ wicket for 19 runs during the latter’s run-chase and snatched victory from the jaws of defeat.

Talking about the jaw-dropping encounter, Christian remarked: “That’s an extraordinary game. It hasn’t quite sunk in yet. For us to pull that back and win by 20 or 15 or whatever was just extraordinary.” Christian was the Player of the Match in the final.
