Disgraced Australian cricketer and former vice-captain of the team David Warner might not be allowed to play any international cricket for a year but can feature in club matches. He has been banned for a year by Cricket Australia from any participation in international or domestic cricket. Thus he has signed up with a couple of T20 leagues – the Global T20 Canada and most recently the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) franchise St Lucia Stars. Darren Sammy who helms the affairs at St Lucia welcomed the Australian in the team.

In the inaugural T20 Canada League, the left-hander will wear the Winnipeg Hawks jersey. Warner got his contract as a replacement for compatriot D’Arcy Short as he will be on national duty representing Australia A on the tour of India during the time CPL is played. Among Aussies big hitter Chris Lynn and all-rounder Shane Watson will also be a part of the league. Lynn is coming off a good IPL season whereas Watson was the star for the champion side Chennai Super Kings in the final.

Mohammad Khan, St Lucia Stars’ General Manager, said: “We are excited to bring David to the Saint Lucia Stars. David is arguably one of the greatest batsman of the modern era and a winning player. He is going to add a lot of value on the field and in the dressing room as we pursue our first Hero CPL Title.”

Sammy after understanding the development couldn’t resist his excitement and he took to Twitter to welcome him. The two have in the past played along for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. Interestingly Sammy was the captain of the side in 2014 season

Sammy tweeted- “Welcome on board champ. @davidwarner31”

He is also going to feature in a couple of one-dayers in the Top End for the NT Strike League that is scheduled for late July. Along with Warner, Cameron Bancroft who was also involved in the ball-tampering saga is expected to play the full tournament.
