March 29 will go down as one of the most significant dates in the history of Indian cricket, and on this day in 2004, Virender Sehwag became the first Indian to slam a triple hundred in Test cricket. He scored 309 against Pakistan and his heroics earned him the title of ‘Multan ka Sultan.’ Moreover, four years later (in 2008), Sehwag scored his second triple ton in Test cricket and was dismissed on this very date, March 29.

On this occasion, South African bowlers became victims of Sehwag’s masterclass in Chennai. Needless to mention, the 29th day of March is special for the former Indian opener and he highlighted the same on Tuesday (March 29, 2022). Taking to Twitter, Sehwag highlighted the relation between his two stellar knocks.

March 29 is a very significant date in my cricketing life: Virender Sehwag

The 43-year-old also revealed that he has a car which is numbered 2903 and it was a coincidence. “Date mein kya rakha hai? March 29th, a very significant date in my cricketing life. Got to the first triple hundred against Pakistan in Multan on this date and got out on 319 against South Africa on this very date. Coincidentally, without plan have a car which is numbered 2903,” tweeted Sehwag.

It must be noted that Sehwag, one of the finest Test openers ever, was nothing but a nightmare for bowlers during his playing days. In the entire history of Test cricket, only three other players have slammed two triple centuries – Don Bradman, Brian Lara and Chris Gayle.

Notably, Sehwag was on the verge of becoming the very first player to slam three triple centuries in Test cricket. However, he fell prey to Sri Lankan great Mutthiah Muralitharan at the score of 293 in the 2010 Mumbai Test. Sehwag made his last Test appearance in 2013 and announced his retirement a couple of years later. While the former Indian opener isn’t an active cricketer anymore, he continues to be in news due to his bold statements and antics on social media.
