South African middle-order batsman David Miller has been appointed as the skipper of the Kings XI Punjab. The Kings, who retained Miller, handed him the captaincy following the release of former skipper George Bailey.

The left-handed Proteas batsman is known to be a big hitter. He was picked up by the Kings XI Punjab in the 2013 auction for a massive 6 crores. He ensured that the investment on him didn’t go to waste as he established himself as a regular middle order batsman.

David Miller etched his name in the IPL record books following his exploits against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on the 6th of May 2013. Chasing 191 for victory, the irresistible Miller slammed his maiden IPL century in barely 38 deliveries. His amazing innings saw the Bangalore bowling attack taken to the cleaners with Miller taking a particular liking to RP Singh.

He continued his fine form into the 2014 edition as he helped the Kings XI Punjab reach the final.

Speaking to the media following his appointment as captain of the Kings, Miller went on to state, “I am honoured to lead the Kings XI Punjab squad this year. I would like to thank the franchise: promoters, management and all the team members for the confidence they have in me.”

“Kings XI have assembled an exciting squad with a good mixture of youth and experience and I am really looking forward to the opportunity that lies ahead,” he added.

The coach of the Kings XI Punjab, Sanjay Bangar added, “I have watched David grow as a player. He has displayed outstanding batting abilities and a cool temperament in many high-pressure situations. I am confident in his potential to lead the boys this season.”
