Cricket South Africa (CSA) today announced the Proteas squad for the tour of New Zealand. The selectors have decided to retain the 14-man squad that beat Sri Lanka in the T20I series and has also won the ODI series with a game to play. South Africa will play one T20I and five One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on the tour.

Dwaine Pretorius who is a part of the team will miss the only T20I as well as the first ODI since he will be with his wife at their home for the birth of their first child. The selectors have named Dane Paterson to fill in for Pretorius in the two games.

Paterson recently made his T20I debut during the home series against the Lankans but is yet to make his ODI debut Talking about the squad and the cover player CSA chief selector Linda Zondi said, “Dane will travel with the squad when they leave on Saturday and will return to South Africa once Dwaine joins the squad,”

He also expressed his happiness with the way the team is performing in the last half year and is looking forward to the Champions Trophy 2017 in England. “We, as selectors are very happy with the way the squad has jelled over the past 6 months and consistency in selection is very important as we continue our build-up towards the ICC Champions Trophy tournament.
