“I think one time I sort of pointed at my head saying to him, like think, use your brain, and he bowled a bouncer,” the Australian said laughingly.

Australian batsman David Warner had a laugh as he spoke about the language barrier that he must deal with when playing in the IPL. Warner, who plays for the Sunrisers Hyderabad, shared the lighter side of having to communicate with players from different countries.

In an exclusive interview with cricket.com.au, the opener said, “The language barrier can be stretched quite a bit. I sort of started learning Bengali. For me, it was challenging on one certain specific person.”

Warner, who captains the Sunrisers side, mentioned learning Bengali in order to instruct Bangladeshi speedster Mustafizur Rahman. The Aussie was under the impression that Fizz was understanding him well.

However, Warner then went on to share a hilarious incident, which unfortunately shattered his hopes. “I think one time I sort of pointed at my head saying to him, like think, use your brain, and he bowled a bouncer,” the Australian said laughingly.

To his utter dismay, Warner realised that his sign language was completely off the mark. Poor Mustafizur had to bend his back and deliver an effort delivery, while all his captain asked of him was to ‘use his brain’.

“I’m at the top mark going, ‘Oh no, he didn’t actually understand me,’” Warner shared. Obviously, the team found it quite funny and had a giggle about Mustafizur’s interpretation of Warner’s finger pointing to his head.

Perhaps David Warner should take a prolonged lesson in Bengali, as he’d have to deal with the Bangladeshi for the upcoming month on a regular basis. On the other hand, the Bengali pacer would do well to pick up on some English as well.

Defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad will take on a depleted Royal Challengers Bangalore side in what will be a rematch of last year’s thrilling final. Warner, who will be at the helm for the Sunrisers, will look to have a good season and break barriers with the bat as well as with the languages.
