England are currently on cloud nine after winning the Test series against India by 4-1. But even they know there are issues in their line-up and their batting line-up struggled big time in their own conditions. With the retirement of Alastair Cook, they are now bereft of the experience as well and will need to hold their own in upcoming Sri Lanka. However, the ‘overseas specialist’ Dawid Malan is now hoping to get picked despite having a not so successful summer in the County Championship.

He was dropped after a poor show against India in the first Test in Birmingham. The left-hander had also shelled Virat Kohli‘s catch in the first innings which almost lost the game for England. Moreover, Malan was also not in the best of the nicks in the Test series against Pakistan earlier in the summer which led to his axing despite doing well during the Ashes and in New Zealand.

Hopefully I got into that plane

England will be playing 5 ODIs, a solitary T20 International and three Test matches against Sri Lanka. Though the tour commences in the first week of October, the team in whites will be locking horns in November. Dawid Malan is hoping to make it to the Test side thanks to his record overseas. He has so far amassed 461 runs in seven matches at an average of 35.71 and is confident of doing well in the subcontinent.

“I still have the ambition to play for England and hopefully I can get on that plane to Sri Lanka this winter,” he was quoted as saying by BBC. Even the selector Ed Smith had earlier said that Malan’s technique is better suited to the conditions outside England which hadn’t gone down well with the cricketer. But after having a chat with Smith, Malan is in a better shape now.

“The comments that I was better suited to overseas didn’t help but I had a good chat with Ed Smith and he explained what he meant and that it wasn’t meant in the way it came across. He said I hadn’t scored as many runs in England as I have overseas. He didn’t mean it in the sense of having technical deficiencies in England,” Malan further added.
