There was a time when the wicket at the WACA Ground was considered a danger for teams visiting Australia, especially those from Asia since the wicket there was called to be fastest in the world. However, times have changed. WACA Ground itself has lost the relevance in big-time cricket and has been replaced by the new Perth Stadium where India will take on Australia in the second Test of the series which the visitors lead 1-0. And if Dean Jones’ knowledge is to go by, the Perth Test will see wicket where the ball will turn and that’s certainly not Australia-like.

India defeated Australia by 31 runs in a well-contested first match which went all the way into the latter half of the final day. The hosts’ tail-enders did their best to make up for their top batters’ failure in the game to remain alive but eventually, the Indian bowlers proved to be a bit too strong for them to successfully negotiate.

Chasing 323 runs to win, Australia resumed their innings from the overnight score of 104 for 4 and were reduced to 187 for 7 before the tail retaliated by adding 104 runs to go down fighting. Tim Paine’s side was all out for 291 with another 20 overs remaining for the day.

Ball will turn and reverse swing

Prof Deano or former Australian batsman Dean Jones took to Twitter to describe the wicket of the Test in Perth starting December 14. “The Perth pitch is a drop in pitch.. what I have been told it is a very abrasive ground and pitch and the ball will turn.. and reverse swing big time,” the former cricketer said.

The upcoming Test will be the first-ever to be held at the stadium which was opened in January this year. The first international match on this venue was a 50-overs game played between Australia and England in the same month and it was won by the visitors by 12 runs.

Jones had said ahead of the Test series that it was India’s best chance this time to beat Australia in their den, something they haven’t done ever and if Kohli’s men could not do it this time, they perhaps could never again.
