Brisbane Heat’s Deandra Dottin was hospitalised after colliding with her teammate Laura Harris along the fence against the Melbourne Stars in the 2016 edition of the Women’s Big Bash League. The incident occurred at the Allan Border Field whilst both fielders were fielding along the fence.

The collision happened in the eleventh over when Southern Stars’ skipper Meg Lanning lofted offspinner Haidee Birkett over midwicket. Dottin and Harris began converging towards the ball. It was also rather interesting that neither took a split-second to take notice of the other person charging across the blades of grass to view the ball.

The collision occurred and Dottin landed on a few kitbags on the side of the fence while Harris crashed into the picket fence. The West Indies all-rounder has eventually stretchered off the field of play while Harris’ not so awkward land on the fence ensured that she would continue playing until the end of the match that would eventually be won by the Brisbane Heat.

As for the unfortunate Deandra Dottin, she was rushed off to a nearby hospital where she could very well have suffered a concussion and could miss a massive chunk of the tournament, to say the least.

If irony has any place to play here, this particular incident comes a few short hours after Holly Ferling struck the ground and suffered a concussion for the same. She also is contracted by the Brisbane Heat. Her head rammed into the turf while she made an attempt to take a catch. She was not able to play Tuesday’s game as a result.

In recent times, many Australian players have batted for the use of concussion substitutes during matches. Adam Voges, Australia’s most recent Bradman-esque batsman has been the latest to use one following a blow that landed on his helmet whilst batting in the Sheffield Shield Domestic competition.
