Fast bowlers are known for their emotional outbursts and especially when it comes to earning one’s first international wicket, the excitement is all the more. The same had happened with young Windies pacer Oshane Thomas who, in overexcitement, slapped his own team-mate wicketkeeper Shai Hope on his face while attempting a high-five after castling in-form Shikhar Dhawan. The act was completely unintentional and the bowler apologised to his teammate for the same.

It all happened in the final delivery of the second over of the Indian innings when Dhawan (4), who had a terrific run in the Asia Cup held last month, dragged the ball onto his stumps while attempting a cut to give the visitors their first wicket. It was the first international scalp for the 21-year-old Jamaican bowler Thomas and his joy was boundless. He then proceeded to celebrate with his mates and while trying to do a high-five with Hope, unintentionally slapped him on his face. He was quick to apologise while Hope took it in a light spirit. The incident amused the commentators.

Thomas troubled Dhawan before getting him

Thomas’ joy was all the more since he troubled Dhawan for the entire over and then dismissed the batsman with the shortest delivery of his first over on the world stage. India, however, were cruising smoothly towards their target of 323 with vice-captain Rohit Sharma and captain Virat Kohli putting up a 200-plus partnership for the second wicket. Kohli is batting well over his hundred now and Rohit is approaching his century.

Here is the video:

Earlier, Kohli won the toss and sent the Windies into bat in the first of the five ODIs being played at Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Guwahati, which is hosting its first international game. Powered by Shimron Hetmyer’s century, a fifty from opener Kieran Powell and a late flourish, the visitors posted 322 for 8 in 50 overs. Marlon Samuels, who played his 200th ODI, was dismissed for zero. Yuzvendra Chahal was the pick of the Indian bowlers with 3 wickets for 41 runs.
