In the Indian Premier League 2022, Delhi Capitals have been average with their performances so far and are at seventh position in the points table with a single win in three appearances. They are facing the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the ongoing Match 19 of the tournament. Ahead of this fixture, the former Ireland cricketer Niall O Brien discussed the form and mindset of the DC team.

Niall was critical of the Capitals playing defensive cricket in the first three games of the tournament. He urged the team to forget the losses in the last few games, and play attacking cricket to build confidence. Niall pointed out the fact that David Warner coming back into the Playing XI can certainly make a big difference.

“Delhi have quite a batting, Pant is a world-class player, Prithvi Shaw is a beautiful timer of the ball, and can score big. You got David Warner and Anrich Nortje back, and sometimes when you got these stars coming back, you got to play on front-foot and gain momentum,” said Niall O Brien on Sky247.net presents ‘Not Just Cricket Show’ on CricTracker.

The former Irish cricketer heaped praise on the spinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has returned as the team’s best bowler with six scalps in three matches. “I am very happy for Kuldeep Yadav, as I am a big fan of him. It’s lovely seeing him, bowling well. If Delhi is gonna go a long way in the tournament, he will play a key role,” Niall added.

I Like Rishabh Pant as a captain: Niall O’Brien

On being asked about the form and mindset of Rishabh Pant, Niall O Brien expressed his admiration for the attitude of wicket-keeper in the Test cricket and wants him to lead and play attacking cricket for Delhi Capitals as well. He reckoned that Pant is thinking too much, and should break the shackles and play his natural game to get back into proper form.

“He probably would have been hurting, but cricketers get over it quite quickly. I like him to captain like he plays test cricket and whacks a ball on his last ball over the extra-cover. I want him to play aggressive, expensive cricket with a smile on his face,” Niall added.
