August 16, 2021 was a day to remember for team India and the fans. Defying all the odds, the Virat Kohli-led side staged a stunning turnaround and registered a memorable win at the Home of cricket, Lord’s. After the first hour of the final day’s play, it was clear that India won’t be setting a challenging target for England. But Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami batted like seasoned cricketers with the willow to stitch an unbeaten 89-run stand.

Yes, India eventually had to declare the innings to give themselves enough overs to bundle the opposition out. As tempers flared early in the morning, the Indian team was pumped up to do well and it helped them as the visitors clinched victory by 151 runs skittling England for just 120 runs in less than 52 overs.

No wonder the Indian fans in the UK were delighted as they had witnessed history at a historic venue. They flocked the streets and danced fully on songs like ‘Saat Samundar’. The traffic was also jam as the police could be seen telling the public to not dance in the middle of the road even as a car is waiting for the way to get cleared.

Here’s the video:

A memorable day for Indian cricket

Going into Day five, England were outright favourites as India had lost six wickets and their lead was only 154 in the second innings. Soon they lost the last recognised batsman in Rishabh Pant and many felt the end was nigh for the visitors. However, Shami and Bumrah had other ideas as they batted brilliantly. India declared on 298/8 setting a target of 272 runs for England in 60 overs.

Clearly, it wasn’t an easy task on a misbehaving day five pitch at Lord’s and the fired up Indian bowlers managed to put enough pressure on England. Their openers didn’t score a single run while the rest went into the defensive mode. A few batters hung around but eventually crumbled as India won the Test with only 20 minutes to go to the schedule close of play.
