Dhoni rues unimpressive batting display while Mortaza is jubilant with the historic win: Bangladesh riding on the back a stunning performance by 19 year old Mustafizur Rahman’s staggering spell prevailed over a beleaguered Indian side and wrapped up the 3 ODI series 2-0. It was a historical series win for Bangladesh, a series win that guarantees them a spot in the 2017 champions trophy, consequently jeopardizing Pakistan’s hopes. This is what both the captains had to say after the match:
Mashrafe Mortaza:
“That was great moment for us,” “To be playing in the Champions Trophy is a big achievement for us. Every time we were shaken someone took over. That is a big thing. The way Mustafiz is bowling he has become the big fish. It has been very significant, and many series coming up, hopefully we can keep on performing like this.”
MS Dhoni:
“It’s pretty simple to see what went wrong,” “We need to put runs on the board. We didn’t get to a good start, and whenever there was a partnership we lost two wickets together. You have to take risks in such a game, but if you keep losing two wickets in a row, it becomes difficult to do so. If you have 200 on the board, it is quite easy for the other teams to chase so I won’t blame the bowlers for this game. We as batsmen got starts, but we didn’t make it big. Where we lacked was the fact that we lost wickets. Most of them played two or three deliveries. They are bowling well as a unit. You can’t really on just one or two bowlers. That is what they are doing well. Even when they didn’t get a wicket,. they kept things tight. They got a bit of reverse but their lines and lengths were good. We will come and enjoy, maybe play a bit more freely. Won’t think too much about the result. Will be the last match of the season, it has been a hectic season, and we are looking forward to it.”
Former Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim too rejoiced at his team’s triumph and had some good words to share.
Mushfiqur Rahim:
To promote the series, which was a touch offensive. So if that was the case, the broadcaster has deserved it.
“One of the greatest moments, really.” “The way Mustafiz bowled was the gamechanger. The way he is bowling in the nets even we are struggling to pick his slower ball. How can the opposition pick it then? And Mashrafe has led us superbly. Thanks to the crowd, and hopefully we will win the next one too.”
Mustafizur Rahman thanked the crowd for their heart-felt support.
“Very happy,” says Mustafizur Rahman, the Man of the Match. “My team-mates helped me a lot to help me do well. Thanks to the crowd too for turning up despite the rain. I want to bowl even better in the third ODI.”
