Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) and injury has become a norm these days as yet another player of the team has suffered an injury. Dinesh Chandimal, the middle order batsman, has sustained a hairline fracture to his thumb while batting during the second One-Day International against India. It has been reported that he won’t take any further part in the match.
Chandimal was hit by a scorching short ball from Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya which surprised the batsman. The incident happened on the third delivery of the 17th over when the score was 65/2 and Lahiru Thirimanne and his partner, the Test skipper were looking to rebuild the innings. The batsman was surprised by the bounce and opted for evasive action and in the process took his eyes off the ball only to get hit on his thumb and the ball was further deflected to his below his helmet as well.
Chandimal was needed a quick medical attention and looked fine after heavy strapping and the magic spray. He eventually got out to the same bowler but struggled his way to 36 off 71 balls.
“Dinesh has suffered a hairline fracture and will not take further part in the game. He is in pain and he will see a specialist doctor tonight in Colombo, the same doctor, who treated Asela Gunaratne. We will make a call tomorrow whether he can take further part in the series,” Sri Lanka’s Cricket Manager Asanka Gurusinha told to cricbuzz.
Sri Lanka in disarray in second ODI
Sri Lanka’s woes continued with their batting and even after winning the toss couldn’t put up a competitive total on the board. Jasprit Bumrah was their nemesis who bowled magnificently to pick up a fifer conceding only 27 runs in his 10 overs. For Sri Lanka, only Thirimanne played well who scored 80 off 105 balls and justified his recall in the team. The hosts could only muster 217/9 in their 50 overs.
Sri Lanka though now will pray that the injury Chandimal is not so serious and hope to take part in the next ODI.
