The game of cricket is all about runs and wickets making it a highly entertaining sport. There are a variety of ways you can score runs in the gentleman’s game. Similarly, there are also a number of ways you can lose your wicket while playing the game. You can be caught by a fielder, you can be wrapped on the pads leading to an LBW, you can be sent back to the pavilion while taking a run and your stumps can also be knocked down. These are just a few out of the many ways of getting out.

Wicketkeeper-batsman, Dinesh Karthik lost his wicket in the most bizarre fashion you will ever witness in the final of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017, where Tamil Nadu locked horns with West Bengal. In the 48th over of the match, the former India wicketkeeper was up against Bengal’s Mohammad Shami who lost control of his pace and his grip over the ball and bowled a massive wide delivery down the leg side.

Dinesh Karthik unleashed his blade with its full swing but missed the delivery which went onto the boundary for four extras. But Tamil Nadu’s joy was cut short in a matter of seconds when they realized that the 31-year-old Karthik has dislodged his own bails with his bat.

The batsman kept an eye on the wide delivery as it made its way towards the fence with his hips turned. But Karthik made a mess out of the situation and unconsciously knocked his bails down as he tried to come back to his normal position. It took a bit of time for Karthik and his teammates to digest what had just happened and the final decision was taken by the third umpire.

Talking about the incident after the match, Dinesh Karthik said “It’s interesting. I haven’t seen my dismissal yet. I find ways to get out, run out and other ways. I haven’t seen my dismissal, but I still can’t believe I hit the stumps. I was pretty upset, because it was 5 runs as well but I’m happy about the result”.

However, Karthik played a gem of an innings as he scored a significant 112 runs that helped Tamil Nadu tto cross the 200 mark and put up a respectable total of 217. The Bengal team performed very poorly when they got their chance to bat and were bundled out for just 180 runs as Tamil Nadu lifted the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2017. Captain Manoj Tiwary chipped in with 32 runs for Bengal while Sudip Chatterjee was their highest scorer with 58 runs to his name.
