Hard work is the key to success. It is not possible for all the players to get an opportunity in the Indian playing XI at the same time. Players must constantly work hard behind the scenes and display good cricket during match days and wait for their opportunity to get into the national team. If a player gives everything to the game and shows dedication consistently, the selectors will reward him sooner or later.

There are several players who are dejected after being dropped from the team. The ability to bounce back from such situations shows the signs of a great player in the making. Dinesh Karthik has been around for more than a decade.

However, he has been in and out of the team regularly and has failed to cement his spot. Many experts believed that Karthik is in the twilight stage of his career and his playing days may be over. The Tamil Nadu wicketkeeper-batsman proved his critics wrong and has made into the Indian test team after a gap of eight years.

The stage is set

To keep faith in oneself in spite of limited opportunities for such a long time shows the quality of Dinesh Karthik. Abhishek Nayar, Mumbai cricketer turned mentor for Karthik just at the right time and designed a rigorous routine for him. This change has worked wonders for the Tamil Nadu player who has been in the form of his life in the last few months. He is looking more confident and hitting the ball as cleanly as anybody.

“He has done well in Ranji Trophy but now, his preparations will change as he switches from T20 to Test cricket. It will be interesting and it is something that he relishes. It’s a dream to play Test cricket and to get that opportunity after eight years is great. He will be up and kicking for it,” Nayar was quoted as saying by sportstarlive.com.

Saha’s injury has provided Karthik with an opportunity to play for India in whites. His performance against Afghanistan in the one-off test will be close watches by the selectors especially with the all-important tour to England just around the corner. Karthik can soon find himself on the flight to England if he does well in Bengaluru. For now, the wicketkeeper-batsman has to keep his head down and keep working on his game. The stage is set for Karthik and he surely cannot let this opportunity slip away.
