Don Bosco bags the ultimate honors in Junior Super Kings T20 tournament

The Chennai Super Kings are all set to make a comeback to the IPL roster this season. While their arrival is still a couple of months ago, the crowds in Chennai got to witness some of the other ‘Super Kings’ in action. The Chennai-based franchise, in association with several other sponsors, recently organised an inter-school T20 tournament. Junior Super Kings was the tournament name.

The tournament recently ended and it was the Don Bosco team that won the finals against AVM Rajeswari. Playing at the ICL ‘A’ grounds, AVM were set a modest target of just 94. However, they ended up messing it up big time to bundle out for 79. AVM skipper Ram Aravind looked in good form in the run chase was expected to take the side home in the match.

He also had two let offs going in his favor during the initial overs. Aravind, the only centurion of the final phase of the tournament, was dismissed in the 6th over by M. Anish Upadhyaya. Anish went on to bowl a brilliant spell of 4/6 to set up the title win for Don Bosco in the big finals. Earlier in the game, Don Bosco has scored 93/7 in their stipulated 20 overs. N. Sunil Krishna was the top scorer with 27 to his name. Meanwhile, Arunachalam was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 3/16 to his name.

Don Bosco 93 for seven in 20 overs (N. Sunil Krishna 27, V. Arunachalam 3/16) beat AVM Rajeswari 79 in 19.4 overs (M. Anish Upadhyaya 4/6, A. Aasrit three for 23).

The finals of the Junior Super Kings competition was followed by a big presentation ceremony. S Ganesh of Don Bosco was named as the Player of the Series while Anish won the Player of the Match award. D. Aswath of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi (Coimbatore) won the Best Batsman award for his consistent performances throughout the tournament. Meanwhile, Don Bosco’s T.M. Shreyas won the Best Bowler accolade.
