In a relieving bit of news for any cricket enthusiast, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed that the remainder of the IPL 2021 season will be held in September-October window in the UAE.

The decision was finalized at the Special General Meeting (SGM) that was organized virtually on Saturday to take the final call on the fate of the curtailed IPL edition, which was halted after 29 fixtures this year, owing to the rampant increase in Covid-19 cases inside the bio-secure environment created for the league.

The move to shift the league to the UAE was not unexpected, as the gulf country was the most probable venue ever since the league was abruptly postponed. Pertinently, the 2020 edition of the IPL was conducted in its entirety in the emirates across three venues without a single hiccup.

As soon as the news of IPL 2021 resuming in the UAE broke out, Chennai Super Kings’ star batter Suresh Raina started trending on Twitter. Raina had pulled out of the previous edition of the league citing personal reasons, amidst various speculations of a rift with the authorities over logistical issues.

Raina had initially travelled with the team; however, problems rose to the fore as soon as he landed in Dubai. It was asserted that he found the bubble environment suffocating and claustrophobic, which in turn led him to demand an airier room, preferably with a balcony. The speculations of a rift between the CSK management and him increased even more after N Srinivasan made the “prima donna” remark.

Later, though, Raina cleared the air by suggesting that Srinivasan is a fatherly figure, who has all rights to say anything he wants. On return, the India cricketer further revealed the gruesome tragedies that his family went through at the time, contributing to his decision of returning to his nation.

“What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had severe injuries. Unfortunately my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days. My bua is still very very critical & is on life support,” he had tweeted, also seeking the help of authorities to unmask the perpetrators of the heinous crime.

“Till date we don’t know what exactly had happened that night & who did this. I request @PunjabPoliceInd to look into this matter. We at least deserve to know who did this heinous act to them. Those criminals should not be spared to commit more crimes,” read another tweet.

All that aside, Twitter decided to have some fun at his expense.
