During the 2017 Champions Trophy, very few reckoned that Pakistan don’t possess the firepower to win the championship. Albeit they started with a horrendous defeat against India, they went on to beat the same opponent by 180 runs in the final to stun one and all. Their position in the ongoing Asia Cup in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) isn’t a whole lot different.

Having got beaten by the Men in Blue twice in the Group stage and Super 4 respectively, Sarfraz Ahmed and Co are next scheduled to play Bangladesh at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi and the encounter is a virtual semi-final for the reason that the winner will get to meet Rohit Sharma’s India in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Friday, September 28.

It is still not over for Pakistan

In the meantime, a number of former Pakistani cricketers reckon that the Men in Green have the potential to stage a strong comeback. Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar still believes that Pakistan can go on to win the final and subsequently, the 50-overs multi-nation event. “Pakistan team has the ability to make a comeback and win the Asia Cup,” Akhtar was quoted as saying in Geo TV.

Shahid Afridi, who had been a number of part of a number of Pakistan’s achievement in the past stood by the team and urged the people to support them. “These are the players that will perform and we should support them,” Afridi mentioned.

Fast bowler and Lahore Qalandars coach Aqib Javed said that all’s not yet lost for Sarfraz’s men. “It is still not over for Pakistan and they can make a strong comeback. We have to make a comeback and I am sure we will,” Javed remarked.

Pakistan have won the Asia Cup back in 2000 and 2012 respectively. On both instances, the tournament was hosted by Bangladesh.
