‘Don’t see that as hate’- Sanjay Manjrekar on being criticised on social media platforms

Sanjay Manjrekar, the former Indian cricketer, had a pretty rough journey in 2019. He was faced with a lot of flak due to some of his comments. To start with, it happened during the World Cup in England and Wales. During a chat show, he called Ravindra Jadeja, the Indian all-rounder, a bits and pieces cricketer. The harsh words didn’t go down well with the southpaw from Saurashtra.

Jadeja lashed out, asking Manjrekar to respect cricketers, who have achievements. The fans also backed the all-rounder and blasted Sanjay, a current commentator, for his demeaning comments. Jadeja went on to score a sparking half-century in the semis, though it came in a losing cause. Manjrekar was even criticised on his birthday where people asked him to give up commentary.

Manjrekar involved in unwanted controversies

Thereafter, Manjrekar had an ugly spat with Harsha Bhogle, the renowned cricket journalist. It took place during India’s Day-Night Test against Bangladesh at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. The verbal war broke out, surrounding the visibility of the pink ball. Bhogle said that after the game the players should be asked about the same. But Manjrekar thought otherwise and hit back at Bhogle.

He said that those who have playing experience, don’t need to take any confirmation. The occurring got Sanjay tangled into yet another controversy. Despite his indifferent run, he is still seen, plying his trade in the commentary box. Recently, he conducted a Question and Answer session on Twitter.

During the interaction, a number of supporters quizzed him on many topics. Meanwhile, a user asked about the way he handles the negativity on Twitter. The fan took to Twitter and wrote, “@sanjaymanjrekar, Sir you have had your fair share of hate tweets how do you handle it? #asksanjay,”

The veteran replied to him and wrote, “I don’t see that as hate at all. It’s the unbounded passion that fans have for the game & it’s players. So, you get your fair share of excessive love & hate too. This passion, don’t forget, also makes Indian cricket a billion dollar industry in which people like me make a living,”
