India routed hosts Zimbabwe by 10 wickets in the third and the final ODI to clean sweep the series comfortably. It was yet another cakewalk for the visitors as they chased down the paltry 123 run target set by the suicidal opposition without any hassle. The story of the match wasn’t much different than the first two ODIs. After being put into bowl, the Indian bowling attack led by Jasprit Bumrah (4/22) and Co. made a mockery of the Zimbabwean batting order and toppled them for just 123 runs in 42.3 overs. In reply, India chased down the target pretty easily in just 21.5 overs riding on the half-centuries from KL Rahul (63) and debutant Faiz Fazal (55).

Indian skipper MS Dhoni looked happy with the series win and was looking forward to the vacation time with his family. MS Dhoni said: “We executed our plans really well in the series. You always plan against the opposition, but it is executing, that is important. The fast bowlers and spinners took wickets at crucial times. I don’t mind winning games easily; few more batters could have got opportunities but the guys who got the opportunities performed really well. After a long time, I am getting a break. I will spend some time with the family and take time off cricket. Don’t think my daughter still recognises me.”

The series has been a disappointing one for the Graeme Cremer & Co. It was, in fact, terrible. Not even once did they cross the 200 run mark in the series and always looked incompetent against the young Indian side. Losing skipper Cremer pointed out the facts which are lacking in the team. Cremer said: “We had to see through the new ball. 250-260 was a par total on this wicket. We got through the new ball, but couldn’t rotate strike and it made it difficult for the guys coming in. We have a T20 squad in my mind. We know we can be dangerous on our day and we will pick ourselves up. Nothing much will change regarding the wickets. Let us see how the curator goes.”

KL Rahul was outstanding in the series and amassed 196 runs in three innings, finishing as the top run scorer of the series. KL Rahul said: “I always knew that I had the skill to do well in all the formats. I got an opportunity with RCB and by doing well I got a call up for the Indian squad. Lot of credit to the bowlers on how they have bowled. They allowed me to go out there and take time before playing my natural game. Once I go there and see the red ball swinging around; I will see how difficult it is (talking about the West Indies tour). The T20 series is the next thing on my mind.”

Yuzvendra Chahal had a fantastic debut series and was named as the Young Player of the series. Chahal said: “There was some pressure at the start of the series, but it got easy after the first game. I was just varying my pace. The pacers bowled well and got us early wickets, that took the pressure off me,” says a delighted Chahal after being named Young Player of the Series.
