Sunil Gavaskar was all over the headlines on Friday for his alleged derogatory comment on Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli while commentating during the match between RCB and KXIP. But according to the match clip which has also gone viral, it was clear that his comments were twisted on social media and the man himself cleared the air stating that his statement was blown out of proportion.

However, Anushka Sharma slammed him earlier in the day in a long Instagram post asking the reason for dragging her name while talking about her husband’s game. Despite clarifying his stance earlier, Sunil Gavaskar decided to speak about the matter again while commentating in Hindi during the match between CSK and DC.

He clearly stated that he and his colleague behind the mic, Aakash Chopra, were talking about the practice and how Virat Kohli and other cricketers didn’t get any chance to practice during the lockdown. He also went on to say that Anushka’s bowling which he spoke about was with reference to the video which had gone viral in which the couple was seen playing cricket in their apartment area.

“We were doing commentary. We were talking about practice. I had said that Virat Kohli didnt get opportunity to practice apart from the video we saw where they were playing in the building compound. I only said that Virat had played Anushka’s bowling,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

There was no sexist comment, says Sunil Gavaskar

The 71-year-old also requested the people to watch the clip of his commentary carefully before questioning him. He also told them to not trust the headlines and he didn’t blame Anushka Sharma at all in his commentary. “Whoever has an objection, please listen to the clip carefully and tell me where I was wrong. I didnt blame Anushka. There was no sexist comment.

“Watch the video again. Listen to it again and then say whatever you want. Don’t trust the headlines, watch the video on your own. My conscience is clear,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
