An aspiring cricketer, identified as Mahesh, was gunned down by a duo just because the ball had broken their conversation. The shocking tragedy took place in the Tehri district of Uttarakhand when the teenage cricketers were honing their skills in the vacant lot in Bheti village. It so happened that when these cricketers were playing, two people, identified as Ramlal and Bijendra Kandari, were engrossed in a conversation outside the former’s house.

During the game, the ball proceeded to reach past them which seemingly broke the flow of their conversation. When Mahesh went near them to pick up the ball. But in anger of being hit by the ball, Ramlal picked up Kandari’s gun and fired at the boy.

Mahesh moved to AIIMS

The thundering shots fired Mahesh rocked the neighbourhood and people reached out to him. They immediately took him to the nearby Community Health Centre (CHC) and then was move to AIIMS Rishikesh for the treatment. Meanwhile, Pradeep Singh Rawat, the in-charge of Ghansali police station has confirmed that both Ramlal and Bijendra Kandari were drunk and have been arrested.

“Both Ramlal and Kandari were under the influence of alcohol. The revenue police immediately arrested Ramlal and Kandari, too, was later arrested,” he was quoted as saying by the Times of India. The police have also seized the weapon used in crime and are investigating the matter at the moment.

Unfortunately, the incident took place from the state which has given cricketers like Manish Pandey (born in Uttarakhand), Rishabh Pant and World Cup-winning captain MS Dhoni (whose family hails from Uttarakhand).

Speaking of the latest International star from Uttarakhand- Rishabh Pant- the southpaw has come a full circle in just his first 12 months of International cricket. Hailed as the successor of another star MS Dhoni at the age of 21, Pant’s stock has fallen to such an extent that he is not even the first choice wicket-keeper in any format for India as of now.

Pant, who is the only Indian wicket-keeper to score hundreds in England and Australia, lost his place to Wriddhiman Shah after the Bengal keeper returned from injury. As far as white-ball cricket is concerned, his constant struggles both in front and behind the wickets coupled with the rise of stock of KL Rahul- both as a batsman and as a keeper- paved way for India to dump the Uttarakhand-born from the set-up.
