The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced the red ball and white ball central contracts for the 2018/19 season. Sam Curran has been rewarded with the central contract in the Tests for his exceptional performance in the recently concluded series against India. He was the Man of the Series for England and made match-winning contributions in a couple of matches.

Meanwhile, his brother Tom Curran has been offered an incremental contract which is given to a player who is not an immediate pick in the Test team but is expected to play white-ball cricket regularly for his country. The players who play only the limited-overs contract are only paid a supplement in addition to their County salary. The ECB only pays to the Test specialists and the all-format cricketers.

Rashid also awarded Test contract

After consistent performances in the whites, Jos Buttler and Adil Rashid has been offered central contracts for all the three formats according to Cricbuzz. The likes of Moeen Ali, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Ben Stokes and Chris Woakes are the other players in the list to be given both the contracts. Overall, ECB has offered 10 Test contracts and 13 white-ball contracts for a 12-month period starting from October 1, 2018.

This move will definitely boost the cricketers to give their best, especially the ones who have been given both the contracts for the first time in their career. England’s next assignment is the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka in the island nation after which they will play a solitary T20I against the same team.

The three-match Test series between the two teams will commence on November 6 with the tour ending on 27th of the same month. England’s record in the Tests in the sub-continent is not so overwhelming and they will be keen to turn around their fortunes his time around. They will have to play the spinners of the opposition well as the ball turns from Day 1 in Sri Lanka.
