ECB confirm security measures of the highest standards to BCCI

The Indian Cricket Board has been guaranteed of unassailable security management in England after the tragic blast in Manchester which completely rattled American pop singer Ariana Grande’s concert. 22 innocent people lost their lives where 56 felt victim to injuries.

The BCCI were left in doubt over the safety of the Indian Cricket team when they put their steps in England. As a result, the BCCI wrote to the England Cricket Board (ECB) in relation to the safety of the defending champions who are supposed to leave for England on Wednesday night. The Champions Trophy is scheduled to kick off on June 1 while India will begin their campaign against arch-rivals Pakistan on the 4^th of June.

The horrific bomb blast episode featured a suicide bomber and the explosion has raised a huge amount of doubts over the big cricketing event. The situation has forced ICC to strengthen their security measures.

“The ICC will hold a meeting later in the day to address the issue in the wake of the terror attack in Manchester,”

England Cricket Board’s reply:

The ECB has also replied to BCCI’s letter and have assured them of complete safety during the 18-day cricketing carnival.

ECB replied to BCCI, saying: “All concerns regarding the teams’ safety during the event are being taken care of.”

According to reports, ICC will hold a conference call later in the day with stakeholders from different places. “How and what happens will be conveyed to all the participating teams,” added an official.

India’s title defense will start with an electrifying encounter against Pakistan, which is considered to be one of the greatest rivalries in world cricket, if not the very best. However, the Indian Cricket Board seem quite relaxed after hearing from the ECB.

“We expect huge turn out for the Indo-Pak clash in England. That’s why the security is of utmost importance to us. But we’ve been assured of fool-proof security by ECB,” said a senior BCCI official.

After settling the business with Pakistan the men in blue are scheduled to lock horns with Srilanka and South Africa respectively on June 8^th and 11^th at the Kennington Oval in London.

“We operate on advice from our Tournament Security Directorate — in conjunction with the ECB and relevant authorities — to ensure that we have a robust safety and security plan for both tournaments.

“The security situation has been very much front and centre of our preparations and we constantly review our procedures to guarantee they are as effective as possible to keep everyone safe. We do not disclose our security details as a matter of policy,” an ICC statement said.
