The inaugural day-night Ashes Test between the Women’s team of Australia and England produced some ever-lasting moments at North Sydney Oval in Sydney. One of them being Ellyse Perry’s maiden hundred in international cricket. Perry not only scored a ton but went on to double it, becoming the highest individual scorer in Women’s cricket.

Her knock of 213* not out broke the previous record, which was held by Karen Rolton. Rolton scored 209* not out against England in the year 2001. The funny incident took place when Perry was on 194, with only one wicket in hand. She smashed spinner Laura Marsh to wide mid-wicket as the crowd broke into applauds. Perry acknowledged the spirited crowd thinking that she reached the 200 landmark, while she was still in the 190’s. The ball took a bounce before reaching the boundary ropes and the game continued after the hilarious scene.

Perry admitted during the press-conference that this was “second most embarrassing thing for me this Test”. The right-handed cricketer added,” It came out off the middle, OK but the crowd just completely fooled me. I lost sight of it … but the guys on the hill kind of cheered like it was six so I went with it and it wasn’t until all my theatrics finished that the umpires mentioned they were checking to see whether it went for six. Whoops.”

“It was fun. I think that’s probably the best way to describe it. I had an amazing time out there today batting with all the girls More than anything I think what’s been the biggest thrill of my career has been the people who have come to this match and the atmosphere that has been created.” she said.
