Indian skipper Mithali Raj has dropped from the No. 1 position after a long time following a below-par ODI series against South Africa. Australian all-rounder Ellyse Perry has taken her top spot for the first time in her career. The injured Aussie skipper Meg Lanning has moved to No. 2 in the ICC ODI rankings for batswomen in Women’s cricket. However, Raj will have another chance to regain her numero uno position in March when Australia is set to travel India for ODI series.
The Indian captain could only muster 69 runs in three innings in the recently concluded ODI rubber which they won famously by 2-1. She is currently 18 points behind than Perry who has 725 rating points. Smriti Mandhana, the left-handed youngster, on the other hand, hammered 219 runs in the series which saw her jump 14 places to the 21st spot. The only other batter from India to be in top 10 is the vice-captain of the team Harmanpreet Kaur placed at No. 7.
Jhulan at second position
Jhulan Goswami who became the first bowler to scalp 200 wickets in ODIs recently has taken the second spot in the ICC ODI bowler rankings with 643 rating points. Marizane Kapp is 10 points ahead of her and continues to remain at the perch despite enduring a poor run against India. Stefanie Taylor from West Indies has conquered the third position with 626 points. Shabnim Ismail, Dane van Niekerk and Ayabonga Khaka are the South African cricketers who have managed to make it to the top 10.
Ellyse Perry is also the No. 1 all-rounder in the World and also received the Belinda Clark award in the Allan Border Medal 2018. She will play the ODI series against India as the top batter and all-rounder and would love to hold on to the position during her stay in the country with some bright performances. The other Australian batter in the top 10 is the experienced Alex Blackwell with 672 rating points.
