The five-match Test series between England and India has been an enthralling contest so far. With the final and fifth Test scheduled to be played on Friday, September 10, the cricket on-lookers have been raring to know what would be the playing conditions for this crucial encounter and the first look of the Old Trafford pitch is out.

Going by the picture of the pitch, it appears that the surface has less grass on it when compared to the other pitches that were used for the ongoing Test series. Journalist Will Macpherson has shared the image of the playing surface to provide the cricket enthusiasts a glimpse of the pitch. He captioned the post as: “Interesting look to the Old Trafford Test pitch, just over 24 hours out from the toss.”

After having a look at the picture, a lot of users have commented their thoughts on the pitch. As the surface appears to be dry, a Twitter user also suggested the inclusion of Jack Leach in the England side. While a lot of them also put their thoughts on the weather conditions of the country and the way it can affect the game.

It is expected that the wicket at Old Trafford will be inclined towards the spinners. As the game progresses, the spinners might prove lethal on the surface. However, with the possibility of overcast conditions, it is likely that the pacers might also play a vital role.

Jos Buttler and Jack Leach included in England squad for the fifth Test

The hosts have recalled left-arm orthodox spinner Jack Leach in the team for the final Test match. As the pitch appears to be a bit dry, the spinner might make it to the playing XI of the side. Buttler who missed the fourth Test to be at the birth of his second child has also made a comeback in the side.

India’s bowlers ran through England’s batting lineup to win the fourth Test match by 157 runs. The visitors thus took the lead of 2-1 in the series. Heading into the fifth Test, England will aim to win the match in order to draw the series. India on the other will be all raring to secure a victory and clinch the series.

However, as per the recent turn of events, the fifth Test match is in doubt after a Team India support staff tested positive for Covid. The BCCI is reported to be not keen on going forward with the final Test after these latest developments.
