Team India have started their England tour with a resounding victory and have cleared that they are not in the country only to make up the numbers. The visitors are also upbeat about their chances to win the upcoming five-match Test series even as England are fretting over the fitness of their key bowler James Anderson. He will test his troubled shoulder before the series which will determine his participation in the all-important contest.

The all-time leading wicket-taker in the whites of England has not played any cricket since the second Test match against Pakistan. He had admitted after the victory in that game that he needed to rest his shoulder with India matches coming thick and fast. The veteran had also termed the schedule for the series as ‘ridiculous’ and now has undergone rehabilitation on his longstanding injury.

Anderson to play a couple of County matches

James Anderson is hoping to prove his fitness in a second XI match for Lancashire on July 15. He will also play in County Championship against Yorkshire in the following week according to the statement released by England and Wales Cricket Board.

“England seamer Jimmy Anderson will make his return to competitive cricket for Lancashire second XI in a three-day match against Nottinghamshire at Old Trafford starting on July 15. Anderson, who has not played since the second Test victory over Pakistan on June 3, has spent the past month rehabilitating a long-standing right shoulder injury and returned to bowling working with Lancashire and England staff in the past seven days,” the statement read.

Despite struggling with injuries, Anderson gave his best in the series against Pakistan and picked 9 wickets in the two matches at an average of 19.11. If England are hoping to continue their winning run over India in Tests, they would need their ace bowler fit and fine for all the five matches of the series.
