India won a historic Test at The Oval by 157 runs and took a 2-1 lead in the Test series. The final event of the series will take place in Manchester and it remains to be seen if India will walk away with the high-profile series in their favour. While India performs at the highest level, there is always a section of fans that start indulging in several activities to show their love for the nation.

However, sometimes these activities do not go well when thought of in the moral context. Talking in the same light, former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar was present in the commentary panel on the final day of India’s fourth Test against England and he pointed out some fans for disrespecting the national flag.

Sunil Gavaskar tells fans not to deface the national flag ever

A section of fans carried the Indian national flag which had ‘We Bleed Blue’ written over it. Gavaskar slammed the fans and asked them not to deface it while showing their love for the nation. “No matter how big a fan you are, do not deface the National Flag. That is how it has been, that is how it should remain,” said Gavaskar on air.

It has to be noted that any act of decorating or defacing the national flag is an offense under ‘Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act, 1971’. However, these fans will not be punished as they did so on English soil but the consequences could’ve been ugly had it happened in India.

Talking about the match at The Oval, India displayed the best teamwork to clinch a historic victory. The day which started with the domination of English openers ended with the domination of Indian bowlers and in fact, the whole Indian team. All the bowlers gave their best to get crucial wickets for India in a quick span and gifted India a huge victory and the series lead, ultimately.

Ace batsman Rohit Sharma was declared as the player of the match for his terrific ton in the 2nd innings of the game to push India to a huge total.
