After opting to bat first, England were put in a spot of bother on Day 1 of the first Test at Edgbaston. It was Ravichandran Ashwin, the off-spinner who did the damage for the away side as he picked up four crucial wickets in the first innings. However, the blow that England were dealt with was during India’s first innings. England’s in-form batsman Jos Buttler jammed his fingers while fielding on Day 2 and he immediately walked off the field.

There was a possibility that Buttler would’ve fractured his finger and that raised a question on his further participation in the game. He was taken to the hospital for scans and reports suggest that there is nothing to be worried about. Though the wicketkeeper-batsman is back on the field in this innings looks good for the rest of the match. He will thus walk out to bat when it is once again England’s turn to post a target for the Indian team once again.

Fracture scare ruled out

There were speculations that he might have sustained a fracture BBC quashed all rumours as it tweeted, “No fracture in his left middle finger, but unlikely to return to the field today.”

It was further mentioned that “He’ll continue to ice finger to reduce swelling.” The X-ray suggested that he was hit but not hard enough to have broken the bone.

The Indian team is batting at the moment, they are nine wickets down and trailing but skipper Virat Kohli who batted with the best temperament he has shown in England got to his hundred. His best score on the previous tour was 39 and this time around the right-hander scored a century in his very first knock on the tour.

There is a good possibility that England will still manage a lead in the first innings and will be interesting to see how the Indian bowlers shape up this time.
