England team head coach, Trevor Bayliss’ contract with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) ends after the World Cup 2019. After the conclusion of his term, Bayliss’ assistant in the team at the moment Paul Farbrace is eager to take over the reins thereafter. At the moment Farbrace is with the England team for the T20I vs Australia and then will be also at the helm for the 3-match T20I series against India.

He had also served as the assistant coach under former coach Peter Moores’ tenure. Farbrace has been termed one of the key figures who have instigated this change in fortunes for the England team following the 2015 World Cup debacle. Bayliss is with the England Lions side at the moment who are playing a one-day tri-series against India A and Windies A. In his absence Farbrace is the man in charge and he thinks if the team management decides to split roles for the coaches he can fill in when the position is up for grabs.

Tough to decline if offered the job

“Of course,” he said, “if come next September I ended up being offered the position that would be great.”

He said that if ECB’s director of cricket Andrew Strauss offers him the head coach’s job or even for one particular team, he is all in.

“If Strauss said we want to offer you the job, or split it between formats and me look after one of the teams, it would be so difficult to say no to that – it really would,” he was quoted as saying by The cricket paper.

He is not alone in the race, as Chris Silverwood is also considered to be a front-runner to replace Bayliss.

The England team is at the top of the ODI ranking at very recently beat the visiting Australians 5-0 in the series to further strengthen their position. They will take on Australia in the one-off T20I on June 27 and then play three-match ODI and T20I series’ against India starting July 3.
