All the talk coming into the ODI series was how will India be able to stem the run-flow of England in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah. Now after just one game of the three-match, the hosts are struggling even to compete for thanks to Kuldeep Yadav’s mystery spin bowling. He absolutely bamboozled them with his variations and went on to register his career-best figures in the ODIs. However, the visitors will be eyeing to seal the series in Lord’s itself with yet another terrific performance.

Virat Kohli was absolutely pleased with the clinical victory the other day at the Trent Bridge. He himself played a superb knock of 75 runs along with Rohit Sharma who slammed his 18th ODI ton. The visitors would be looking to continue the winning momentum and put their opposition to the mat. But they should be wary of taking things for granted with England having the ability to comeback much like they did in the T20I series.

The Brits, on the other hand, were flying high after whitewashing Australia last month but are dealing with the harsh reality now. The Men in Blue have exposed their weakness with only 11 months to go for the World Cup in the same country and they will have to find a way to get out of this rut. They have never looked so helpless in the last four years and it will be interesting to see the way they manage to face the calamity.

Pitch and Conditions

Lord’s is generally known to be a slow track which assists the spinners more as the game progresses. But the way India is playing Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali, it should make much difference for them. Expect the team winning the toss to bowl first on a lovely sunny day at the Home of Cricket.

Team Combinations

England

England have to find a way to get past this strong Indian line-up and a plethora of changes in the team won’t do any good for them. They might ponder about bringing in Jake Ball for Mark Wood who was the most expensive bowler. But more than the changes they have to get their mindset right for the game to face the wrist-spinners. Apart from Jos Buttler, nobody has picked Kuldeep in the top order which means he has to bat up the order and anchor the innings to negate the chinaman.

Rashid and Ali have to somehow bowl tight lines and keep a lid on the run-scoring in the middle overs after which the fast bowlers will be able to have their say.

Probable XI: Jason Roy, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root, Jos Buttler (wk), Eoin Morgan (c), Ben Stokes, Moeen Ali, David Willey, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood/Jake Ball

India

The Men in Blue should go with the same playing XI which won the first ODI easily. But they will be keen on giving more exposure to the players who didn’t get a chance in the last game. The likes of Suresh Raina and KL Rahul have to spend some more time in the middle.

Dinesh Karthik continues to be unlucky who might have to warm the bench again. Raina’s ability to bowl a few crucial overs forced the team management to go with him and unless the series is sealed at the Lord’s he will have to wait for his chance. In the bowling department, the pacers were expensive the other day and if fit, Bhuvneshwar Kumar will replace Siddarth Kaul in the line-up.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli (c), KL Rahul, MS Dhoni, Suresh Raina, Hardik Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar/Siddarth Kaul, Umesh Yadav, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal

Probable top performers

Jos Buttler (England), Virat Kohli (India)
