India and England have been involved in an intriguing battle in the first of the five-match Test series in Birmingham. Both the teams are battling neck and neck over the last two days and the cricket fans are being treated to an absolute spectacle. The ongoing second day of the game has witnessed some of the best bowling and Virat Kohli has been batting really well battling against all the odds. However, even Michael Vaughan has reaffirmed the importance of the longest format of the game after watching the action at the Edgbaston.

The partnership between Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow was taking the game away from the visitors but the brilliance from Kohli turned the proceedings on its head. The bowling looked incisive since then as England collapsed from being 216/3 to 287 all out. It was Ravi Ashwin who picked 4 wickets and looked at his best. Even the likes Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma bowled well and supported.

Vaughan thrilled with Kohli’s batting

If the first day showed India’s bowling strength, the second day provided an opportunity for the hosts to make a comeback. After being bowled out for 287 runs, Sam Curran and Ben Stokes spit venom with the ball and shared six between them. India, after starting well, faded away drastically.

But their best batsmen Virat Kohli continued to defy the odds and played one of the best Test innings ever. He left most of the deliveries outside the off-stump as James Anderson tried to lure million times during his marathon spells. But he didn’t even attempt and survived while on 22 thanks to Dawid Malan. But he rode on to that chance and went on notch up his 22nd Test century when other batsmen disappointed.

Michael Vaughan was extremely pleased to witness the proper Test cricket in Birmingham and was convinced that Test cricket is the best format. “Test bowling at its best .. Test Batting at its Best from @imVkohli .. These last 2 days have given us all a reminder why it’s the best format by a country mile … #ENGvIND,” he tweeted.
