England are currently ranked number one in ODI cricket and are a brute force to reckon with. They were eliminated before the quarter-final of the 2015 Cricket World Cup and the face of their cricket has changed ever since. Recently, the Brits thumped Australia 5-0 in the ODI series and also beat them in the only ODI at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

However, they are straining a wee bit against India in their ongoing limited-overs fixtures. KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav rocked them in the first T20I at Old Trafford in Manchester after which Alex Hales’ resilient half-century helped them draw level in the series in Cardiff. Nevertheless, Rohit Sharma’s superlative century at the County Ground in Bristol helped India to the series victory.

The first ODI was played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and a high-scoring match was speculated. To the despair of the home team, they crumbled to Kuldeep’s guile and trajectory and subsequently folded for a below-par total on the strip which didn’t have much to offer to the bowlers. Rohit and skipper Virat Kohli’s partnership of 167 runs made sure that the Men in Blue take a 1-0 lead in the series.

India- The firm favorites to win the World Cup?

The second match will be played at the iconic Lord’s and Virat’s men not only has the chance to win the series but also claim the number one position in the ODI rankings, overtaking their opponent. The conditions have mostly been similar to the Indian subcontinent and have favored the Indian cricketers more than the home team.

Previously, Sourav Ganguly, the former Indian cricketer, spoke about the dry atmosphere. Recently, Michael Vaughan has gone a step ahead and affirmed India as the World Champions next year if the conditions remain nice and dry.

He took to Twitter and wrote, “If conditions are dry next summer I think we are watching the World champions in action today …… Your guess which team !ENGvIND”
